About | Fieldwork

Fieldwork began when two landscape architects left a large practice to work on smaller, stranger public spaces. The first project was a churchyard in Easton; the second, a car park that became a market.

Fifteen years later we are twenty-four people across two studios, and the studio is owned by the people who work in it. We still take on small projects, and we still start every one by walking the site with the people who know it best.

Designed with, not for.

Every brief is written with residents. We budget engagement as a design stage, not a consultation exercise.
Built to be looked after.

We design maintenance plans alongside planting plans, and visit every project five years after it opens.
Nature first.

Existing trees, soils and water shape the layout. We aim for 20% biodiversity net gain, twice the legal minimum.
