Approach
Parks are the most democratic places a city has.
We design them to be free, open and welcoming to everyone, and robust enough to stay that way for fifty years.
Every park project starts with a season of listening: walking the site at different times of day, talking to people who use it and people who avoid it, and mapping what already works. The brief that comes out of that process is shared with the client and the community before we draw anything.
What we deliver
- Feasibility studies and funding bids, including National Lottery Heritage Fund applications
- Concept to technical design, planning and construction packages
- Planting design, with maintenance plans written for the teams who will carry them out
- Play strategies and play space design for all ages and abilities
Most park projects run for two to four years from brief to opening. We stay involved for five years after that.

Common questions about park projects.
How much does a park project cost?
Fees are usually 8 to 12% of construction cost. We will give you a fixed fee for each stage before work starts.
Can you help with funding applications?
Yes. We have supported bids totalling £41m, including eight successful Heritage Fund applications.
Do you work outside the UK?
Occasionally, with a local partner practice. Most of our work is in England and Scotland.
